Cooking, painting, they both require a certain artistry!

Twirly and Active!

Well.. how did I go all month without any updates? There is so much to say... Rikki only wants to wear twirly dresses now, which go by the shorthand, "twirly." Every morning, it's "where's my purple twirly?" or "where's my flower twirly?" We seem to be wearing the flower twirly (depicted here) for days on end... Glad to be doing this now in Berkeley, as some of these twirlies won't be warm enough in Chicago.

She continues to have the cutest expressions... Like when she accomplishes something, for example, going to the potty, she'll say:

"Just like you!! How bout that?"

And when we're on the way from the living room to watch Sesame Street on my computer: "I'll bring my purse in case I need it."

She is very self-sufficient. Not only has she given up on booster seats, she no longer wants to use the child's potty, she is only interested in the real toilet, and now refuses to use a step to get onto it, preferring to "scoot" herself up. She also rejects the step for rinsing her hands in the sink, because she can just barely reach the tips of her fingers under the faucet if she stands on her tiptoes. It's "I can do it" all the way.

"I got it," is another popular expression, and if I can successfully load the "I got it" video, you'll see what I mean!

She uses words like "though" and "also" regularly, at the end of her sentences. For example, "It's not lellow though," pointing out that she has gotten up before the appointed time (when her clock turns yellow.)

Another one that made me giggle was at a frozen yogurt stand when she was eyeing the M&M toppings, and kept asking for "edamame".

She really knows how to engage... We see a friend at breakfast who was recently at our house, and it's "I'm looking you everywhere!" And when we get to school each morning, she tells the teachers, "I keep coming back!"

We are heading back to Chicago very soon, and while the two of us are really starting to look forward to it ... her friends and teachers here in Berkeley are not ;( We will miss them and our many other friends, young and old, here by the Bay.

Ye olde mama

While in California I celebrated my birthday, down in So Cal with dear D and then back in Berkeley with a few close friends and family...

Multi-tasking!

Yes - that's Mao's little red book!
