NOTES

GENERAL INFO

·       Accreditation process—"by far the most enjoyable and most productive" visit according to the panel of evaluators. 

·       Thursday the 9^th, got approval for the Q Lab construction. 

 

UPPER SCHOOL

·       Hired a new upper school PE coach (To replace Coach Vince) Garry Branner from Monroe Catholic School.  Garry was the unanimous choice of the students—and admin.  Also hired an additional upper school science teacher.  Jonathan Cohen will be teaching 8^th grade science and more.  Was at Prospect Sierra and then to LHS and then at the Ring Mountain School in Marin.  Still on the hunt for a 7^th grade English teacher. 

 

LOWER SCHOOL 

·       Laura Wolff will be taking over for Eileen Duncan (who will be on maternity leave) in 3^rd grade.  And Sue Bectel will be teaching third grade in the spring.

 

MORE GENERAL INFO 

·       High school acceptances.  Bishop O'Dowd, Bentley, Head Royce, Lick Wilmerding, Marin Academy, St. Mary's, Athenian, Bay School, College Prep, Urban School, Berkeley High, El Cerrito High, Oakland Tech, Piedmont High, Alameda High.

·       Admissions outlook: Independent schools upper schools are impossible to get into—148 applicants for 16 spots in upper school. 

·       BPC gives over $700,000 in financial aid—this is critical for BPC's culture.  Likely 297 next year.  Still need more k kids—did reject some k kids, so not concerned about fewer children.  Full 1st grade on—not accepting any more students. Hired a registrar.  Emeryville is a potential place for new kids.  Still figuring out marketing to attract best k kids. 

·       Discussion about a gender neutral bathroom in upper school—it exists already.

·        $1.05 million committed for Q Lab.  Breaking ground on June 4. 

·       Around 64% participation in Annual Fund. 

·       Java with John on April 21^st

·       Next meeting is a party parents circle.  Karen is stepping down and we say thank you to the outgoing room parents and welcome to new room parent.  JoAnn Carter (third grade mom) is going to be taking Karen's position. 

·       Need more staff for end of the year events. 

 

LESLEY INFO

Art Opening is on May 5^th from 5-7pm. We need volunteers.  All of the classrooms will be open on May 5^th from 5-6.  The art needs to be put up on Monday and will be there through Wednesday  -- and available for viewing 8am-5pm.
